Have you thought about a career in the Merchant Navy?
If you like the idea of navigating ships or the responsibility of maintaining the ships engine room, a cadetship could be for you.
If you are over 17 you can apply for a higher education qualification with a Merchant Navy cadet sponsorship. You will be part of an industry where no two days are the same, with a wide range of career opportunities and progression.
Register for our virtual Merchant Navy information event to hear first hand from our industry experienced tutors. There will also be the opportunity to ask any questions you may have in our Q&A.
A career at sea

A Deck Officer is responsible for the safe navigation and operation of the vessel, both at sea and in port. A Deck Officer is also responsible for the safety, communications, cargo, passengers and crew management on board ship. Training will take place both onshore and at sea across five different phases. We offer the Deck Officer HNC/HND programme, which normally takes cadets two-and-a-half to three years to complete depending on the route taken.
An Engineering Officer in the Merchant Navy is responsible for the safety, performance and maintenance of the engine room and ship’s technical systems. To work in this role, you must be practical and resourceful and have a real interest in mechanical and electrical systems. Training will take place both onshore and at sea across five different phases. We offer the Engineering Officer HNC/HND programme, which normally takes cadets two-and-a-half to three years to complete depending on the route taken.
